Our Approach to Emergencies

When you bring your pet in for urgent or emergency care, we want you to feel comfortable and safe. We have your pet’s best interests at heart, and we will work quickly to assess, diagnose, and treat your pet.

When you and your pet arrive, we’ll take your pet to check their vitals and stabilize them if necessary. Patients are treated in order of need; the pets who require the most urgent attention will be seen first, but all pets will be seen as promptly as possible. All of our Edmond veterinary professionals have experience treating critically injured or sick pets – rest assured your pet is in the best hands.

We are able to provide the following treatments for urgent medical needs:

Ideally, call us if you suspect your pet is having a health crisis. We are happy to provide advice over the phone to help you assess whether or not you should bring your pet into the clinic. If we do recommend coming to Family Pet Hospital, we will see you and your pet as soon as possible. Our Edmond veterinarians strive to be calm, compassionate, and thorough in all cases. We will keep you informed and answer any questions you may have as we treat your pet.

Signs your pet might need emergency care:

  • Labored or difficulty breathing

  • Unusual swelling in the abdomen

  • Excessive vomiting or diarrhea

  • Excessive bleeding

  • Seizures or stroke

  • Very high or very low body temperature

If you notice any of the signs above, your pet likely needs urgent medical attention. Don’t wait for these symptoms to resolve themselves. Contact us right away and we’ll make sure your pet gets the help they need.

After Emergency Assistance

While Family Pet Hospital is open to treating your pets six days a week, emergencies rarely happen at convenient times. We are unable to accommodate after-hours emergencies, but we have recommendations for trusted local emergency care for when we’re unable to help you or your pet. Speak with your veterinarian on your next visit so you’re prepared for any eventuality.
